The O'Brien is a unique historical find among the chain hotels in the San Antonio convention area. The hotel is just off the Riverwalk but not among or like all the standard "convention" hotels in the area. It has a unique history and interior decor. My king room was larger than most and clean. The staff were very pleasant and helpful with directions, suggestions, etc. It is a good, off the tourist area value for the cost. Being "across the river" from the Riverwalk tourist areas there could be more shops, local restaurants, neighborhood ambiance but being as it is such a short walk to those on the other side, it is not a big thing. Perhaps over time, this area which is now largely big parking lots will get developed with a "historical" feel like some of the other adjacent areas.

Excellent location with access to the Riverwalk one block over. The hotel is very pretty from the outside and has a lot of charm. The interior also has its own charm, but it could benefit from some much-needed TLC. The paintwork, carpet, and lighting require attention. It's possible to maintain charm without it feeling dingy and musky. The bed was very comfortable, better than some more expensive hotels I have stayed in recently. There was a fridge and the AC did a good job cooling the room. Overall, it was a good stay but the inside needs some TLC, especially at this price point.

We loved our stay at the O'Brien. The bed was so comfortable, room was very clean and spacious. The staff was exceptional. Devon (spelling?) was amazing and is an example of what all employees should strive for. He was so friendly, engaging, and willing to help. The location was great for walking to the river walk. Our room was on the 1st floor, right by the street. It was quiet and we had no complaints. Would stay here again!

Hotel and location is very convenient for price. Lobby was nice, staff was equally as welcoming. It's a decent hotel considering but there are a few things I felt could have been better. Beds were pretty firm an after the heat an walking all day it's not great for your back. Bedding itself was fairly clean but some stains were very noticeable. Carpet as well felt kinda unclean. I kept sandals on at all times. Bathroom was great. Balcony to sit an hang on was also a nice touch but all room are connected there an only separated by chains. That was tad concerning considering all your things are behind a glass door. If you're looking for a bargain at close Riverwalk access I say go for it.

Yeah it's historical,but that doesn't mean you can't renovate it lol The rooms looked clean but just didn't felt clean,hard to explain but it probably was the choice of old bedding they picked for these rooms (black blankets???Odd and just makes me question how it gets cleaned if you can't bleach it with so much use,I just didn't felt comfortable even thinking about it lol) and everything else seems just outdated. But service was very good,the employees there are super friendly and helpful,can't say anything negative there and the location is of course perfect. I hope the owner reads this and considers to update that hotel what haves so much potential and give the employees a raise,they work really hard and go beyond.

I said hotel from August 23, 2023. We had a great experience, wonderful staff, especially RJ. He helped us out and also went beyond his customer service duties. He will be at always remembered as the one we always go to and we needed help and advice, and also information. Great hosts great experience quiet location and I was so comfortable and cozy. I would recommend it and will deserve the side to come back as well but if my wife will definitely stay here again.

Stayed at the O'Brien for one night. Here's a list of the issues we faced... Their website went down and it took 45 minutes to check-in. We had no hot water, front desk said give it 10 minutes to warm up but that didn't work. The body soap and conditioner dispensers in the shower were empty. Finally, there were no wash clothes. Not happy with our experience.

Really nice place. Close to the river walk. Cute hotel. Nice people working there. The building needs a little TLC. Balcony was nice. Could see some sites and listen to a band that was playing near by. Close to Alamo, lavitta and good restaurants. Please check them out. Price was good too. Each floor had a lounge area. Our floor had tables and chairs with a relaxing aroma. I believe it was from wax melts. A wine and cheese happy hour would have been nice to have on each floor. Meet your neighbor, chill and cool off from TX heat.
